British Columbia Schizophrenia Society

Founded in 1982 by families and friends of people with schizophrenia, the BC Schizophrenia Society (BCSS) is dedicated to providing support and education to families and their ill relatives. BCSS has grown into a large provincial volunteer-based family support organization with members and supporters province wide, provincial office staff, and a team of regional family support coordinators. BCSS is a registered non-profit society located in Richmond, BC, and is led by a volunteer Board of Directors.

We provide education and caring support for families affected by serious mental illness. The family unit is our first responsibility and primary focus; the person with the illness is always included in the definition of family.

  • Advocate on behalf of families and people with serious mental illness for improved services
  • Promote research into the causes, treatment and ultimate cure of schizophrenia
